Coaching Scenarios
How Coaching Helps
Situation: Perhaps you’re a sophomore in high school or college, and you need to find an internship in a specific field. You’re feeling overwhelmed by the prospect of a search and are doubtful you will find something your parents will approve of, so you’ve been procrastinating.
Coaching: I will help you define what you’re most interested in, explore compelling possibilities, and determine the next steps to pursue the options that most interest you. I may connect you with a colleague who works in the field you are interested in and/or suggest we plan a Zoom call with your parents to make sure our ideas are aligned.
Situation: Maybe you’ve been putting off applying to college, procrastinating on a law school application, or feeling discouraged about a job search. Meanwhile, you’re becoming increasingly anxious and haven’t been sleeping well.
Coaching: I will help you feel less alone with the stress, organize your thoughts, and identify your priorities. These actions will reduce your fear and anxiety, enabling you to sleep more soundly, and help us move forward with a plan that works for you.
Situation: You are an international student who is worried about taking the right courses, or you may need assistance creating a schedule so you get your work done earlier and get more sleep. Or you could be feeling homesick.
Coaching: We will review and assess your courses and determine if changes are needed. Then we will review your evening schedule to identify where you might be spending too much time and/or pinpoint distractions that might be getting you off track. Since your parents are in another time zone and you’re afraid to ask for help at school, I can assist. As for homesickness, you may need to identify who and what you miss the most and express those feelings during our sessions. Once we identify these feelings, we often feel better able to manage them.
